El Salvador de Piedades Sur de San Ramón is located on the western slopes of the foothills of the Montes del Aguacate. This area has long been characterized by its diverse vegetation, in harmony with the region’s features, and its abundance of wildlife (deer, coyotes, peccaries, tapirs, coatis, black guans, paca, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, etc.), which are rapidly declining day by day. In many of the pastures, calingueros grasses and jaragua tussocks abound, along with timber, fruit, and ornamental trees covered in bromeliads, orchids, and other epiphytes, as well as nectar-producing species with abundant blooms. For this reason, numerous apiaries are found throughout the region. The current hermitage is an exact replica of the original, which had to be replaced because it could no longer be restored.

Dinoland

Dinoland is a theme park with an interactive trail approximately 1.5 km long, surrounded by flora and fauna, especially ferns and birds, which makes it very similar to the forests depicted in Jurassic movies. Visitors interact with approximately 35 animatronic dinosaurs with movement and sound, and enjoy panoramic views of two national parks (Poás Volcano and Juan Castro Blanco), as well as several volcanoes (Poás, Viejo, El Congo, and Von Frantzius). It also features a waterfall approximately 70 meters high called Catarata Río Agrio, named for the acidity of the waters from Poás Volcano, mainly due to sulfur. On site, you’ll find trails, a restaurant, an event hall, ample parking, animatronic dinosaurs, the waterfall, gardens, green areas, a playground, a souvenir shop, interactive activities, restrooms, showers, camping space, fiber-optic internet — a space to enjoy with family and friends.

El Bosque de Tío Víctor offers a unique experience in 65 hectares of protected tropical rainforest, including both primary and secondary forest areas. With 7 kilometers of natural trails (no concrete or pavers), it ensures minimal ecosystem intervention. Along the trails, visitors can enjoy five waterfalls, eight natural pools for swimming, and a spring where the river’s origin can be observed. There’s also a yoga platform in the middle of the forest next to a waterfall. At the entrance of the trail, there’s a reception and restrooms for visitors’ comfort.

The place we want to present to you is the basalt rocks, located 4 kilometers from the reference property El Ranchito Mío. Visitors are accompanied at all times by a local guide. This public and open-access site is available all day and also has a nearby hydroelectric dam. Once in the area, a 15-minute walk downstream takes place, during which you can enjoy wide views of the surrounding landscape and mountains.

La Ermita de San Rafael was founded in 1909 thanks to land donated by Francisco Orlich Ziz and the collective effort of the community, who built the first temple in honor of San Rafael Arcángel. Today, in 2024, the hermitage represents not only a place of faith but also a symbol of community commitment and unity over more than a hundred years.

La Zona Protectora el Chayote (ZPC) is a 766-hectare protected wilderness area located in the central region of Costa Rica. The predominant life zones in the area are lower montane very wet forest and lower montane rainforest. In addition, it borders the Paso de las Nubes Biological Corridor, where other protected areas with high biological richness are located, such as Juan Castro Blanco National Park, Poás Volcano National Park, Río Toro Protected Zone, and Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve.

Alto Juan Pedro is a farm used for raising heifers, but it offers some of the best views in the area and includes a mountainous section with trails and a few rivers. It has a pleasant climate and a dirt road leading to the highest part of the farm, from where you can see Arenal Volcano. It also has two simple but charming rustic cabins. The owners are planning a tourism project to welcome foreign visitors. The idea is to create a network of trails around the property and a camping area for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the place.

Parque De Sarchí (Carreta Típica Más Grande Del Mundo)

The world’s largest oxcart, enormous and brightly painted, is located in the Central Park in front of the church in Sarchí Norte. It measures 15 meters long and weighs almost 2 tons. It was built to enter the Guinness World Records in 2006. In 2023, the Sarchí Municipality remodeled the shed where the giant cart is located, and it was restored. The project was led by the Sarchí Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, private companies, and professionals from various fields.

Hacienda La Luisa

An old estate founded in 1830, considered one of the driving forces behind the development of Sarchí during the 20th century. It began as a cattle ranch and later turned to coffee and sugarcane cultivation. Today, it focuses on producing specialty coffees under a sustainable and regenerative model that protects the tropical cloud forest and promotes biodiversity. It is the birthplace of the Villa Sarchí coffee variety, known for its quality and adaptability. The estate spans more than 224 hectares, including 96 hectares of forest, numerous water sources, and internal trails. It offers panoramic views of the Western and Central Valleys, where you can see the Poás, Barva, Irazú, and Turrialba volcanoes.
